The Innovation Champion (IC) Refresher Workshop was organised from 1 to 3 September 2026 at SCERT Bihar with the objective of orienting and strengthening the capacity of Innovation Champions through kit and hands-on, activity-based STEM learning and supporting them in taking these experiences effectively into their classrooms and schools. The three-day workshop was designed around a combination of experiential learning, reflection, demonstrations, group discussions and classroom implementation planning.
The workshop began with an inauguration and orientation session, followed by a reflection on the cascade model and its implementation at the school level through a focused group discussion. This provided teachers with an opportunity to reflect on their experiences, discuss implementation challenges and think about ways to strengthen the cascade of activities to schools. The inauguration was attended by the Joint Director (Administration), HODs of Science and Mathematics, and faculty members from the Science and ICT departments of SCERT Bihar, demonstrating strong institutional support for the programme.
Throughout the workshop, participants actively engaged in a range of hands-on STEM activities. They explored Optical Instruments, focusing on light, reflection, refraction and observation, and participated in “Unseen Wonders: A Journey into the Micro World,” which included hands-on Foldscope making and microscopy-based exploration. Teachers were encouraged to connect these activities with textbook concepts and classroom learning.
The workshop also introduced teachers to microscale chemistry, demonstrating how low-cost chemistry experiments can be conducted using accessible materials and approaches. Participants explored different reactions and were given a Chemistry Reaction Exploration assignment to extend their learning beyond the sessions. In mathematics, the “Geometry Connection” session connected points, lines, angles and proofs with real-world applications. A session on PBL Innovation and Data Handling further helped teachers explore numbers, patterns and the applications of data and for INSPIRE MANAK entry.
The workshop concluded with a Valedictory and Way Forward session, where teachers reflected on their learning, discussed commitments and identified next steps for implementation. The session was attended by the Joint Director, DIET, and HODs of Science and Mathematics, who encouraged the teachers to take the learning and activities back to their classrooms, implement them with students and continue sharing their experiences.
